The machine is really strong and tough as the name implies. I liked all of the simple features it had on it. The drawback to me was the buttonhole attachment. When you start the buttonhole you’ll have to adjust your zig zag stitch to make tight lines. When the buttonhole has finished one two and three the last stitch which is a zig zag stitch doesn’t stop as other machines do. It just keeps sewing down. So the adjustment is to look through the tiny hole of the needle plate and make sure your stitch stops and you are not able to backtack to secure the stitch. You just have to cut the thread and try to pull it through the fabric so that you can tie a knot. Not to my liking. Sending it back. Other than that I thought it was a great machine and it will sew through eight denim fabric pieces and then land on a single cotton fabric and the stitches look great. I am going to upgrade to the computerized one which does a lot of other things but also makes nice buttonholes. Good job two brother for making a incredible machine.

I LOVE this little workhorse! Ordered it out of frustration with my very expensive, very temperamental Pfaff which sends me the message that “the machine needs to rest” about every hundred stitches, including the first hundred each time. I wanted a mechanical machine with nothing electronic, no readouts, no nothing but a stitching machine. I know the Brother name, although this is the first I have owned. I am an experienced seamstress and quilter with little need anymore for fancy stitching. I quilt. I make gifts. Amazingly, I placed the order in the noon hour and the machine was in my hands by 5:15, out of the box and threaded minutes later and I am now making its first quilt. It is foolproof. The threading instructions are printed on the machine, solid line for top thread and dashlines for bobbin winding, which is smooth and reliable. DO NOT USE ANY BOBBINS WITH THIS MACHINE OTHER THAN THE SIZE AND NUMBER THAT COME WITH IT. They are not interchangeable. If you buy this machine, I would advise ordering a large supply of bobbins simultaneously. You may or may not be able to find these you-know-where when you need them and once you begin sewing on this machine, you will likely leave your computerized model for more complex or decorative projects. This machine is quite portable, but it is not lightweight or light duty. I am about to make a denim quilt and I am confident of sailing through it with only needle and tension adjustments. The stitching is smooth, needle position range is wide and there are plenty of utility stitches, even for a sewist like me. If I had an issue with anything on this machine, it is that the spool pin seems to be fixed and I prefer to have mine stand perpendicular to the machine. Aside from that, to have this little hoss delivered to my house in less than five hours for under $200 is the deal of the year.

I’m a quilter so I sew a lot of seams😊 This little machine has no computer or a lot of fancy stitches it just sews a beautiful seam! It’s a powerhouse! Simplicity at its finest! Only drawback is that I’m missing my auto thread cutter, small price to pay to assure the computer isn’t going to go bad! Love it

I bought a much more expensive sewing machine (Husqvarna) and returned it. It was difficult to use. I bought a Brother and love it. It’s easy to use and almost seems intuitive. I recommend this machine for anyone who sews.

I’ve managed to center the needle and am now very satisfied with the machine – it appeared to default to the right position, making certain presser feet unusable. The instructions on how to fix this may be in the manual, but I was unable to find it. I do recommend this machine for heavy work; it’s been a champ sewing through 4 layers of upholstery fabric. If you find yourself in the same fix I was in, select #2 stitch and then set your zig zag width to about 3. The machine will neither zig nor zag with that stitch setting. This may be common now, but I hadn’t sewn in years and it’s the first time I’ve encountered it.

Product received was in good shape and am eager to use. Delivery was an issue. Package was not left at or near covered porch as stated. Package was left in the rain by driver outside garage door.

I had never owned a sewing machine other than a Kenmore for the past 45 years! When Kenmore was no longer made, I purchased one from the manufacturer of the Kenmore sewing machine. It must have had something wrong with it so I sent it back and decided to try a Brother sewing machine. I like it so well, and was glad that I ordered this particular model. It looks good and sews good, too!
