kids love mystery toys and this one does not disappoint. It comes with a surprise train and two surprise cargo pieces, along with two cargo cars. It’s was fun for my son to dunk in the water and see what train he got. would be a fun stocking stuffer for Christmas.

My son loves Thomas and friends so he was so excited to play with this. He had so much fun watching the color change but all the yellow color didn’t come off easily. I had to scrub with a paper towel to get it out of a few cracks and crevices. But that was it. It changed color once. Anyway, my son loves it and he is still currently playing with it. It is his favorite toy at the moment.

The outside packaging sort of tells you which train characters on the inside, but it doesn’t tell you one what print will be on the side or what accessories they come with. It’s coated in paint when you open it up and there are two blind bags with the train car accessories. Fill the plastic silo with warm water and watch the paint come off. It takes a little bit of washing to get all the paint off. Even after the reveal it is still a color change toy. If you put it into cold water (or the fridge/freezer), and the colors change and then change back with warm water. The train is diecast, metal and compatible with other push along trains of the same size. My toddler loves it.

The Thomas & Friends Mystery Toy set is pretty cool. You don’t know who you’ll get, but you can pretty much tell by the shape. Beware that once you dip this in hot water, the yellow paint comes off. So, if you are bathing your kids and wanted to ‘surprise’ them with this toy, make sure you do the color change in the sink before bringing it into the bath or shower, as the yellow dye comes off and will stain the tub. The color does come off after some rubbing, but you probably don’t want to be sitting in the same water as the dye when it washes off. I thought the train would change colors after putting in cold water, but it doesn’t. It only stays one color once the yellow mystery paint comes off. It comes with two train cars that carry some artifacts, which our set came with dinosaur bones. Fun toys for kids if they like Thomas train!

I have a huge Thomas/trains in general fan, so I thought this might be fun.
      Understatement!
I handed the totally green engine to my kiddo in the tub. Not only did the entire tub of water turn green (a huge positive tbh), it took several good swishes back and forth before he could see Kana. He also needed to work some of the color off with his fingers under the water, which was great fine motor practice, lol.
He hasn’t noticed that Kana turns colors in cold water vs warm water.yet–I’m saving that for another day, preferably outside at the water table.
The cargo cars and blind bagged cargo were just as big of a hit, and the trio went to bed.with him last night.
I’ve already been asked for another one!
Like all the metal engines, Kana was well made and, I’m sure, will survive many a ride down kid-built tracks and tall staircases. She’ll also spend plenty of time, along with the cool included water tower, on the sand and water table.
Highly recommend,.and we’ll be trying to collect all four.

This was a fun and easy experiment to do with my kiddo. The quality of the train and carts are great and will make a lovely gift for younger children.

My three year old loved it and found it so exciting. However, he knew which character it was by the shape of the train. Nonetheless, he loved the interaction of adding the water and watching thomas change color. The yellow took a little extra rinsing to get fully off. He now has a new favorite Thomas toy!

I know three-year old’s tastes are fickle but at least the Thomas toys seem to get played with and we get our money’s worth. This is a slightly different toy in that instead of being motorized or talking, it just relies on good old imagination. I thought once the “surprise” shapes were revealed (not a major secret) that interest would wane or more would be demanded, but it was quickly simply another toy. Clean off the coloring to avoid staining and turn the imaginations loose!

Great gift option for Uncles/Aunts or Grandmas and Grandpas to their Thomas loving family members. These mystery gifts are a real hoot with the kiddos who absolutely love the suspense. It’s a fun activity to that you can do together that really creates some cute moments. My only complaint would be those moments are short lasted and then it’s up to the child if this becomes a core toy in their rotation which can be hit or miss. I would recommend this for kids who in particular are BIG thomas fans. If not, they probably wouldn’t be the best choice here. It’s fun, cheap, creates that special moment and picture time fun that you’re probably looking for out of a gift. And for those reasons I’m in. Check my pictures to see what you’re getting here.
